The Clinton County Youth Council (CCYC) hosted a Make A Difference Day Service event on Sat. Oct. 24th. Over 40 students, staff, and community volunteers joined together to make improvements to the CCYC disc (Frisbee) golf course and pick up litter on the Luther Warren Peace Path bike trail. Ewing Tree Service, Kohl's, TKB fraternity from Wilmington College, and Wilmington High School teachers provided volunteers for the day of service. After the day of service, 21 participants competed in the first ever CCYC Disc Golf tournament.
The CCYC disc golf course is located on the grounds of CCYC’s after-school youth center at 302 W. Sugartree St. in Wilmington. Disc golf follows the rules of traditional ball golf, with the difference of a flying disc replacing a golf ball and clubs. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target (a suspended metal basket) which is the "hole".
The project was made possible with the generous support of Alkermes, which purchased the 9 disc golf baskets for the course. The course design snakes and traverses a partially wooded layout throughout our 5 acre campus that has direct access to the Luther Warren Peace Path.
The CCYC will be hosting an End of Year FUN NIGHT at the Wilmington Cinemas Plaza 5 on Thursday, May 28, from 9pm-Midnight! This event is open to both Middle School and High School students. Movies shown will be Avengers, Tomorrowland, and Pitch Perfect 2. There will also be a live DJ, contests, and prizes. Admission is $5 with proceeds benefiting the Clinton County Youth Council.
We would like to recognize Leslie Ealy (left) and Jozie Britton (right) as CCYC Volunteers of the Month. Leslie and Jozie have combined to volunteer over 100 hours of service with the CCYC this fall. They bring positive and energetic attitudes to the youth center and Fun Nights.
Leslie is former student of the CCYC and a 2006 graduate of Wilmington High School. She is a professional cosmetologist at the Hair Place in Wilmington. Her hobbies include sign language and singing.
Jozie is a volunteer fire fighter who loves to coach and play softball. She will be performing at the Murphy Theater Christmas show from Dec. 11-14. Good luck, Jozie!
